Art Questions

  • Who makes the art for Otter Mage Designs?

Jade. (That’s me - the person writing this.)

I do not even use AI to generate any portion of the art you see here. That includes the product photos and mockups.

By “art”, I’m referring to all graphic design on the site, all of my brand’s logos, the sketches, the inks, the concept art, the finished work, the formatting of the site and the art themselves, and every single word, panel, speech bubble, and sound effect found in my manga.

  • So you don't use any AI to make the art on this site?

    That’s correct.

I make it all. Me, myself, and I.

I have no interest in using AI to create the art found here and have a strict no scraping policy for this website. (And an attorney to help me enforce it.)

  • Do you take commissions?

I appreciate your interest in commissioning me for custom work of either your original characters, portraits, or of characters you love. At this time, I’m no longer accepting commissions. If you are interested in influencing what I create and then downloading it for free to print and use for yourself and your community, my Patreon is a great place to do that! It’s low cost, high reward and is something that I love doing. Please check it out!

  • Do you take requests?

    Yes!

Through my Patreon, you can request characters to be added to future polls and then, during each month, you vote on who you’d like to see me draw. Then, I draw them! Tiers start at as little as $1 per month. I hope you’ll check it out!

  • What do you use to make your art?

All current prints, manga, and art for merch is made in Clip Studio Paint EX/Pro on an XP Pen Pro drawing monitor and XP Pen Pro drawing tablet. My PC is a custom self-built machine designed to optimize video and art rendering.

Additionally, I use design programs like Affinity Design, Affinity Photo, and Canva to create graphics, scale images, and create product mockups. I do not use AI rendering features in these programs for my art, mockups, or graphics.

  • Where do you find inspiration?

From a little bit of everything! Classic literature like Orwell, Austen, Wells, and Verne shaped my writing and interests. In manga, I was first inspired by Rumiko Takahashi and CLAMP, but I also admire Hirohiko Araki’s storytelling. I’m a huge fan of animation from Studio WIT, Kyoto Animation, and Studio Trigger. And, when it comes to film, Hitchcock’s work has had the biggest impact on me. I love stories that explore what makes people tick!

  • Where is your merchandise made?

It’s actually create in Florida, in my home studio.

The prints you receive from my home studio are printed through Cat Print, which is based in New York. A portion of every purchase I make through them supports schools for diverse, under-privileged populations as well as local cat shelters.

I also support other small businesses and companies from all over the world to help bring my products to your home.

Ethics, Sustainability, & Responsibility

  • Where is your merchandise made?

I draw most of the art in my home studio in Florida.

The prints you receive are printed through Cat Print, which is based in New York. A portion of every purchase I make through them supports schools for diverse, under-privileged populations as well as local cat shelters.

I also support other small businesses and companies from all over the world to help bring my products to your home while focusing on keeping products affordable and accessible.

When possible, I prioritize women owned and operated, North American partners.

  • What are you doing to help the environment?

Sustainability is extremely important to me. I love animals and want to make sure they have safe, beautiful homes for thousands of years to come.

In 2018, I transitioned to printing through Cat Print. This reduced paper and plastic waste in my home studio. By leveraging their services and sustainability goals, we can work together to reduce pollution.

As a digital artist, I’m also not using countless sketchbooks, pencils, paints, or markers on a weekly basis.

  • How do you identify? What are your pronouns?

I don’t fit into any box. I’m just me.

My preferred pronouns are she/her. You can refer to my brands as “they, it, them”. I refer to the brands as “we/us” as well as “I”, depending on the appropriate tone of voice.

The otter in my logo has no “gender” or “identity”. You’re welcome to refer to it as “it, he, she, they” but please don’t lewd it or sexualize it. Animals are pure creatures. We don’t lewd the animals. Thank you!

  • What are you doing to promote inclusivity?

I want the spaces I’m part of to feel welcoming for everyone. That’s why I try to lead by example—treating people with respect, being open to different perspectives, and encouraging a positive vibe. Inclusivity isn’t about rules; it’s about showing that it’s totally normal and beneficial to everyone to make space for all people.

  • What do you do with my data?

I protect it! Like you, I don’t like when my information is sold or shared with other companies that sell it. I do what I can to make sure that doesn’t happen, which includes working with an attorney to make sure our bases are covered. I encourage you to check out my privacy policy. I think you’ll find acceptable. And, if you have concerns, tell me!

  • When will you be streaming on Twitch again?
